This acne treatment has the potential to be an effective BHA (beta hydroxy acid) exfoliant for acne-prone skin. The main ingredient is a 1% concentration of salicylic acid, which functions as a keratolytic agent, causing the layers of the epidermis to shed more rapidly. However, the pH of this product is way too high for the salicylic acid to properly exfoliate, which is this product's intended use. We believe Neutrogena's Acne Treatment would have been better received by dermatologists and consumers if it had the appropriate pH and it contained a higher amount of antioxidants for further benefits. This product also contains retinol, however, the amount is likely too low to offer much help to acne-prone skin. More Information
